These past few weeks have been a painful reminder of the ways in which systemic racism permeates our society, threatening the lives of our families, friends, and neighbors. George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery are the most recent in a long line of lives lost. It has been a wake-up call: racism and social inequality are not other people’s problems.
While it is impossible to fully understand or even speculate what injustices the black community experience on a daily basis, we want to express our sadness, and our solidarity with all those hurting. We must reflect on our role in this conversation and renew our commitment to listening and to acting. Acting towards the betterment of our communities and a vision of inclusion, and towards an environment where everyone can feel safe, heard, and understood.
